The Canadian Rugby 7's Fund was created in 2005 by a group of Canadian businessmen living in Hong Kong. They wanted to contribute and support Canada's national team at international competitions and set out to build a $1,000,000 USD endowment. The objective is to provide supplemental funding for Canada’s National 7s teams at the Hong Kong Rugby 7s, internationally and at home in Canada. This supplemental funding helps Canada's team - which has amateur playing status - to compete among professionally funded international teams. Since it's inception, the fund has become the largest private revenue source for Canada's National Men's 7s Team and along the way we have witnessed Canada ascend from 36th to 8th place in the world. There are 4 Hong Kong Directors and 3 Canadian Directors who volunteer their time and one paid staff member. Working in partnership with Rugby Canada & the Canadian Rugby Foundation, fund raises money from donations and Hong Kong’s premier Canadian event, The Great Canadian Luncheon.
