About the Event:

Private equity has become a significant alternative to capital markets for companies in China seeking capital. The private equity landscape is maturing and opportunities for private equity firms to complete transactions are expanding rapidly. However, competition for deals is becoming more intense and the regulatory framework more complex. PE firms have historically relied on strong domestic growth and buoyant capital markets to generate their returns in China. They are are now finding that they have to work more proactively with their portfolio companies to build value.

Chinese entrepreneurs who have built up successful manufacturing, service or property businesses over the years are looking for strategic investors to help grow their companies or preparing to exit as part of succession planning. At the same time, tech ventures are attracting billions of dollars in third or fourth round/pre-IPO investments as PE firms scrambled for mega deals. Trillions of dollars in investments have poured into China over the past decade and a home grown PE industry is building up, international PE firms used to be the favourite investors for the Chinese companies but in recent years find themselves competing for deals with regional players and Chinese firms offering both US$ and RMB funds.

Take the opportunity to learn from and interact with Ms. Deborah Orida of CPPIB, Canada’s largest pension fund and Ms. Vivian Lam of RRJ Capital, Asia’s fastest growing PE firm on their China investment strategy, and Mr. Rupert Chamberlain, Partner and Head of Private Equity of KPMG China, who advises private equity investors on investments, divestments, and fund raising in China and across Asia.
