About the Event:

How can Hong Kong take advantage of the disruptive forces occurring within the transport industry? How will these forces shape Hong Kong’s integration with the Greater Bay area and the broader Smart City agenda?  

Leading public and private sector experts will join an engaging debate on ways in which Hong Kong can adopt and adapt to the tremendous innovations that are occurring within the transport sector to deliver a truly integrated transport system that meets the our growing mobility and liveability needs.  Importantly, will Hong Kong remain a competitive liveable international city in the region?

This half-day forum is hosted by international chambers including AustCham, AmCham, British Chamber, Canadian Chamber, French Chamber, German Chamber and the European Chamber, with the support of our major event partner FIA Formula E HKT HK E-Prix. 1) HK E-Prix has offered the opportunity to join the Michelin Workshop Tours (3 sessions) after the forum. Join the guided Michelin Workshop and learn from Michelin technicians - how the tires are produced, the technology and material that go into them, and how they are differentiated from other racing/road tires.

The tour will be held after the Transportation Forum.

About the Speakers:

Mr. Chan Fan
Frank JP, Secretary for Transport and Housing

Mr Chan is appointed Secretary for Transport and Housing on 1 July 2017. Before assuming this post, Mr Chan was the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services and the General Manager of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Trading Fund since December 2011.
As the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Chan is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, Hong Kong Logistics Development Council and Aviation Development and Three-runway System Advisory Committee. He is also a board member of the MTR Corporation Limited and the Airport Authority Hong Kong; as well as a member of the Council for Sustainable Development, Economic Development Commission and Task Force on Land Supply.
Mr Chan is a fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Mr Chan received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Hong Kong, master’s degree in medical physics from the University of Aberdeen, UK, and master’s degree in business management from the University of Hong Kong.

Steve Saxon
Partner, McKinsey & Company’s Shanghai office

Steve joined McKinsey in London in 2000, and transferred to Asia in 2005. He is a core member of our transport, infrastructure and logistics practice.
Steve works with all modes of transport, including airlines, shipping, logistics operators and subway and bus operators. On mobility, Steve led a team exploring international urban transit investment opportunities for an Asian subway operator, and has defined the strategy for a leading Asian urban mobility player. He knows Hong Kong well, and his work has included studying its role as an air and shipping hub. Steve speaks regularly at conferences, including the Asian Maritime and Logistics conference in Hong Kong, and the American and British Chambers in Hong Kong on container shipping.

Dr. Detlev Mohr
Senior Partner in McKinsey & Company Stuttgart office

Dr. Mohr is a long term leader of McKinsey´s European Automotive Practice and since spring 2017 Global leader of McKinsey Transportation, Travel and Logistics Practice. He has 25 years of consulting expertise serving automotive, transportation and industrial clients in Europe, China and the US on topics of strategy, transformation programs, marketing & sales and organizational change.
He provides deep expertise on mobility and transportation trends and success factors, and supports understanding of specific customer needs and potential moves of different players in the industry. He is the co-author of several McKinsey research pieces on the future of mobility.

Lincoln Leong
Chief Executive Officer, MTR Corporation

Mr Leong has been the Chief Executive Officer (‘CEO’) and a Member of the Board of Directors since March 2015 and a Member of the Executive Directorate since 2002. He joined the Company in February 2002 as the Finance Director, and was re-titled as the Finance & Business Development Director in May 2008. He was appointed as the Deputy CEO in July 2012 and the Acting CEO in August 2014.
As the CEO, Mr Leong is responsible for the Company’s overall performance in and outside of Hong Kong. Prior to joining the Company, he worked in the accountancy and investment banking industries in London, Vancouver and Hong Kong. Mr Leong is a non-executive director of Mandarin Oriental International Limited, chairman of the Quality Assurance Council of the University Grants Committee, vice-chairman of The Hong Kong Housing Society, and a vice-patron and a member of the Board of Directors of The Community Chest of Hong Kong. He was an independent non-executive director of Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited. Mr Leong holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (subsequently a Master of Arts degree) from the University of Cambridge. He later qualified as a chartered accountant in England in 1985 and Canada in 1986. Mr Leong is a chartered fellow of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong. He is also a director of some of the members of the Company’s group.

Julian Vella
AsPAC Regional Head - Global Infrastructure Advisory, Co-Head - China Infrastructure, KPMG

Julian is the Asia Pacific Regional Leader for KPMG’s Global Infrastructure Practice and is a member of KPMG’s Global Infrastructure Leadership team. Julian also previously developed and led KPMG Australia’s infrastructure practice and was a Board member of KPMG Australia for 6 years.
Julian was also a member of the Infrastructure Finance Working Group which reported to the Australian Federal Government on Infrastructure Finance and Funding Reform in 2012. Many of the Group’s recommendations have since been adopted by government.
In his current role, Julian travels widely throughout Asia Pacific working with governments and the private sector to develop and advise on infrastructure programs, projects and assets. He is an active public speaker on a range of aspects associated with infrastructure.
He has extensive experience as a lead adviser on a large range of commercial transactions, particularly in the transport and industrial markets sectors. Julian’s advice to Government organisations and corporations includes advice in respect of: infrastructure projects and financing (including Public Private Partnerships), privatisation, corporate strategy, corporate/debt restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, divestments, and business valuations.
In addition to Julian’s experience in Australia and other markets, he is currently leading the KPMG team which is advising the Hong Kong Government on the development of a multi-purpose Sports Park, including a 50,000 seat stadium, in Kai Tak, Hong Kong.

Dr. Jason Ni
Assistant Professor, City University of Hong Kong

Dr. Ni holds dual Master degrees in Transportation Engineering and City Planning from University of California at Berkeley (2003), and a Ph.D. degree in Transportation Technology and Policy from University of California at Davis (2008). Jason's technical expertise includes transportation demand modeling (TransCAD, TP+), traffic impact studies, and traffic operation (Synchro). In terms of research, he did a comparative study of Smart Card ticketing programs between City of Taipei and San Francisco Bay Area. He was also involved in the Hydrogen Pathway Program at UC Davis. His dissertation was about the Motorization and Vehicle Purchase Behavior in China, and so far he has published more than 25 academic reports and journal papers (including 4 SCI papers).

Pierre-Etienne Gautier
VP Innovation, SYSTRA

Pierre-Etienne Gautier is the Director of Innovation for SYSTRA and, since 2016, he has been member of the Hyperloop One Technical Advisory Board. Prior to Inexia’s merger with SYSTRA in 2011 he was the Scientific Director for Inexia and from October 2007 through February 2011, he was Scientific Director at the Directorate of Research Innovation at SNCF. As well as his innovation management positions, he had led research activities on the mechanics of infrastructure and railway transport system, specialising in acoustics, crosswind aerodynamics, train-track interaction and dynamic behaviour. He is currently Chairman of the train-track interaction sector of UIC, Professor at the École Centrale Paris, a member of Scientific Council of the Institut Français des Sciences et Technologies des Transports (IFSTTAR) and sits on the policy committee for civil and urban engineering network of the Insitut pour la recherche appliquée et ‘expérimentation en génie civil (IREX).

Dr. Henry Wong
Head of Strategic Wireless Technology and Core Networks, HKT

Dr. Wong is responsible for the strategy of Mobile Broadband Development, Spectrum Planning, Mobile Network Architecture Design including 4G, IoT, and Network Transformation to 5G. Dr. Wong oversees the Transformation Project from the experience of the customer journey for service transformation, the design thinking methodology for business process transformation, and the network infrastructure transformation.
Dr. Wong has over 25 years of experience in mobile industry. He is an Alternate Board Members of NGMN and achieved the BSc (Hons) in Computer Engineering from the University of Manchester in UK, PhD in Mobile Radio Telecommunications from the University of Southampton, and MBA from the University of Hull.

Francois Bancon
Vice President, Global Product and Programs of INFINITI Motor Company Limited

Francois Bancon is Vice President, Global Product and Programs of INFINITI Motor Company Limited based at the company's global headquarters in Hong Kong. Francois is responsible for Global Product Marketing Management, Global Connected and Autonomous Car and Global Motorsport. He was named as Vice President, Global Product Strategy in 2014 responsible for INFINIT product portfolio. Previously, he was Division General Manager for Nissan Motor Company overseeing product strategy and planning for the Exploratory and Advanced Product Department. He was also Creative Director of Marketing and Communications for the Global Zero Emission Business Unit. Bancon is a seasoned product executive with more than 35 years of experience in the automotive industry. He started his automotive career with Renault SA in France in 1978. In 1999, he joined Nissan Motor Company Ltd as General Manager in charge of perceived quality within the company’s Design team. In 2005, he was named head of advanced product planning.

Waltraut Ritter
Principal, Knowledge Dialogues

Waltraut Ritter is principal at Knowledge Dialogues, specializing in applied research on innovation and knowledge-based economy in the Asia Pacific Region and works for government agencies, public and private research institutes and international organisations. She has worked on projects related to knowledge/sustainable cities for more than a decade. She served on the Digital Strategy Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong government, and on the ICT committee of the European Chamber of Commerce.
She is adjunct faculty at the Institute of Advanced Executive Education at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University management, as well as guest lecturer in the M.Sc. in Innovation Management Programme at the Singapore Management University. She is a member of APSTN (Asia Pacific Science, Technology and Society Network), the International Council on Knowledge Management (ICKM) and the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T).

About the Moderator:

Dr. Hung Wing-tat
Fellow of HK Society of Transportation Studies & Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

Dr. Hung is a fellow of the Hong Kong Society of Transportation Studies and a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. He lectured Transportation Planning and Design as well as related environmental subjects for over 25 years before his retirement in 2017 at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has been involved in the Government’s green transport initiatives including “diesel to LPG taxis”, “retrofitting tailpipe cleaning devices” and “pilot green transport fund” trials. He also leaded a E-bus policy research project funded by the Central Policy Unit, HKSARG in 2016. He currently serves many Government advisory committees including the Aviation Development and Three Runway System Advisory Committee and the Advisory Council on the Environment.

Andrew Pickford
Director, Infrastructure & Transport Advisory Services, MVA Hong Kong

Andrew has been instrumental in the early development of industrial robotics, mobile location services and the application of advanced technologies to roads and vehicles since 1989. In his diverse career, Andrew has established himself as a practitioner in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems, Intelligent Mobility and Smart Cities, often looking at how we can better enable drivers, vehicles and the built environment to become more and more interconnected. Andrew has worked on many landmark mobility-related projects globally and, in-between grappling with project management and policy development initiatives, he has advised governments on PPP and industrial strategies, and he’s also a published author in these specialized areas. He was founder / chair of the Society for Intelligent Transport Systems (Road User Charging Systems) in the UK from 2003 to 2010 and. He’s been based in Hong Kong since 2010, focusing on transaction advisory, Electronic Road Pricing, ‘connected vehicles’, in-vehicle telematics, urban traffic control, graduated driver assistance, cooperative driving and vehicle platooning applications.
