Investing for Young Professionals is a series launched by the Canadian Chamber’s Young Professional Committee in 2017.

Part 1: Investing 101 was a huge success and provided an introduction to investing by Mary Leung, Head Standards and Advocacy, APAC at CFA institute.

Part 2 will further educate young professionals by featuring personal stories of investing pitfalls and success from financial industry experts. Our goal is to proved attendees with a framework to understand investment decisions

We will dive into three key topics relevant to young investors:

  • Bonds
  • ETFs
  • MPF

Connie Chan
Vice President – Blackrock

Connie Chan is part of the iShares Wealth, Retail and Asset Managers Sales team.

Prior to joining iShares in 2010, Connie worked in the Equity Sales Trading desk of Daiwa Capital Markets, covering Asset Managers in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Prior to this, Connie worked in the Equity Derivatives sales desk in Societe Generale.

Connie has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a Bachelor of Economics and Finance degree from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Keio University in Japan.

Lawrence Nutting
VP & Chief Distribution Officer - Manulife (International) Limited

Lawrence started his career as a Financial Planner in Canada in 1982 - spending 18 years as a Financial Planner. He is Chief Distribution Officer, Manulife (International) Limited and is on the Board of Manulife Provident Funds Trust Company Limited. He heads up all Manulife’s distribution channels in Hong Kong, covering the agency force and partnership distribution including banks, brokers and independent financial advisors.

Lawrence holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master of Business Administration. He has received the designations of Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant. He is also a Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

Xena Dai  
Research Associate – Wellington Management

As a research associate in Fixed Income Credit Research, Xena conducts credit research in emerging market corporate debt markets, with a focus on Asian corporate issuers.

Xena joined the firm in 2010 as a member of Wellington Management’s Launch Research Associate Program and has rotated through multiple assignments on a project basis, working with senior investors in Global Industry Research, Global Equity Portfolio Management, and Fixed Income Credit Research. 

Xena earned her BS in applied mathematics and economics from Brown University (2010). She is originally from China and is fluent in Mandarin.

Deputy Editor & Head of IPS Coverage at Asian Private Banker
