From watches that measure your sleeping patterns, wristbands that track your calories, to running shoes that calculate your steps, wearable technologies are becoming increasingly embedded in our daily lives and the trend will only continue. We have the ability to monitor and control our lifestyles more than ever, but how do we maintain a balance between the personal benefits we afford while being mindful of how our data is being monitored? Join us as we explore how to maximize the benefits of smart technologies while considering the greater impacts of their usage.

Mike Agerbo

As one of Canada’s most loved and well-known technology figures Mike is an award-winning television producer and veteran TV personality. You can watch him weekly on his GetConnectedTV show on GlobalTV, The Business News Network, AMI, CityTV and CHECKTV across Canada. He can also be heard every Saturday on his CKNW AM 980 radio show. He is also the founder and principal of Blink Media, a leading Canadian digital creative agency.

Dr. Peter Chow-White

Dr. Chow-White is an expert on the adoption and impact of big data on individuals, organizations, and society.  He works closely with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of British Columbia on big data and social media privacy protection. The research in his GeNA Lab investigates communication, strategy, and big data in genomics and health, social media, and professional sports. He collaborates with scientists at the BC Cancer Agency, Genome Sciences Centre, and Centre for Clinical Genomics developing genome diagnostics for cancer and mitigating social and professional challenges and risks. His lab also develops big data software applications for large-scale text and content analysis.
