Please join us for an information session on the ENGAGE Mentorship and Work Placement Program hosted by Community Business, a Hong Kong-based not-for-profit organisation advancing responsible & inclusive business practices in Asia.  The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with Community Business on the ENGAGE program, which provides members with an opportunity for our members to give back to and support a community of underprivileged students in Hong Kong.

What is ENGAGE?
Community Business’s flagship program ENGAGE Hong Kong is a 6-month poverty alleviation program bringing together disadvantaged teenagers and volunteer mentors to open doors of opportunity, develop new skills, and connect with the community. Now in its 12th year, this meaningful program aims to promote social inclusion by empowering secondary school students from disadvantaged backgrounds to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and achieve upward social mobility, including planning for higher education.

How Can I and My Organisation Support?
One of the most important elements of the ENGAGE program is the 1 to 4 week work placements offered to mentees at a range of employers from diverse industries.  This opportunity is invaluable to mentees, exposing them to a variety of careers and jobs, building workplace skills, and crucially, giving them real-world experience that they can leverage into future opportunities in work and study.

Why Provide a Work Placement?

By being a work placement host, your company will:
  • Be inspired by young, determined and enthusiastic young people who have big aspirations but lack access to social capital and opportunities
  • Enjoy brand recognition and organizational development benefits
  • Be viewed as an employer of choice to socially conscious talent

Employees who are involved in organizing and supporting the work placement will:
  • Benefit in personal and professional development
  • Develop stronger coaching and leadership skills
  • Gain valuable experience in planning and delivering training for young people
  • Have a sense of pride in their company’s commitment to investing in the local community
