CANCHAM Chamber News, News

Announcement: Cancham is forming a brand new Policy and Government Relations Committee. Information and sign-up Session April 23, 6-7 pm, followed by Wine and Cheese.

Location: Alberta Office: 10th Floor, Tower Two, Admiralty Centre, 18 Harcourt Road (Admiralty MTR Exit A),

Open to all Cancham members. This meeting will involve a presentation on the purpose and nature of the new Committee, discussion, and sign up of committee members who may be interested in joining. We encourage robust participation.

Background: Cancham’s Exco has endorsed a proposal to form a new Policy and Government Relations Committee. Reporting directly to Exco, the Policy and Government Affairs Committee will fill in a Cancham gap by strengthening our ability to track policy developments and interests in HK, China and the wider Asian region. It will boost our institutional capacity to engage the Hong Kong government and to work with partner organisations in Canada and across Asia, including the Asia Pacific Foundation with whom we now have a strategic collaboration MOU (signed in February). This Committee will bring together interested members and policy experts from different sectors for policy discussions, meetings, presentations, roundtable and panel discussions, and it will give us the means to develop more information and policy-oriented discussion and position papers.  The activities of the committee aid in identifying cross-sector issues of importance for members, and help to determine the appropriate platform for engaging and raising awareness of particular public policy issues across the region and in Canada. Among subjects already on the notional agenda include member interests in the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), prospects for a Canada-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement, the Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area and more. The new Policy and Government Relations Committee will work closely with the Secretariat and existing committees in a collaborative way to help bring more value to our members and to increase the Canadian business community’s profile and impact in HK, Canada and other markets of interest to our membership.
