HONG KONG, December 5, 2018 – The Canadian Chambers of Commerce in Hong Kong, Macao and the Pearl River Delta signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership on December 3rd, 2018 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

With the Greater Bay Area poised to become one of the largest bay area economies in the world, the strategic partnership between the three Chambers will help Canadian businesses tap into an economy with a combined GDP of $1.5 trillion.

Signed by Todd Handcock, Chairman of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (CanChamHK), Howard Stribbell, President of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Macao (CanCham Macao), and Adam Turnbull, the President of The Pearl River Delta Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CanCham PRD), the MoU will allow each of the Chambers to leverage the strengths of their respective jurisdictions while strengthening the Canadian business community as a whole. Highlights of the MoU include a commitment to information exchange on policy and market developments, collaboration on policy and advocacy initiatives, sharing of best practices and amplifying the voice of the Canadian business community in the region.

“The Pearl River Delta still has a lot of untapped potential for Canadian businesses,” explained Mr Turnbull, President of CanChamPRD. “There is a lot of activity among Canadian entrepreneurs in the tech startup world as well as advanced manufacturing and international trade. These companies need to tap into the CanChamHK’s strengths in finance, legal, IT and other professional services, as well as CanCham Macao’s strength in education and tourism. Now these connections are within arm’s reach, this is a huge benefit for our members.”

Mr Stribbell, President of CanCham Macao stated, “This first-ever tripartite agreement between the Canadian chambers will create enhanced opportunities for CanCham Macao and provide added value for our members in terms of additional events and business connections. The partnership will also strengthen our collective position as the Greater Bay Area initiatives come on-stream.”

“This strategic partnership will improve and increase the way we do business and will strengthen the capabilities of our members in China, Hong Kong and Macao,” said Mr Handcock, Chairman of CanChamHK. “The MoU will not only give members better access to the insights, experience and advice needed to build a thriving business but it will also allow them to capture the opportunities arising from the growth of the economic powerhouse that is the Greater Bay Area.”
