About the Speakers:
John Timpany
Partner, KPMG


John is a Partner with KPMG China specializing in Corporate Tax. John’s work involves providing the full range of tax assistance and advice to multinational companies across the Asia Pacific region and beyond. A number of John’s clients use Hong Kong as location for their head office and John advises these organizations on managing their tax affairs regionally and globally.

His role involves advising on issues relevant to the establishment of investment holding and operating structures for companies operating in a diverse range of industries and countries. He has extensive international merger and acquisition experience and has played a major role in the provision of tax advice on due diligence engagements, contract negotiation, transaction restructuring and financing.

A key part of his role is advising on cross border investing including the issues relevant to Hong Kong’s expanding network of double taxation agreements.


Clifford Ng
Partner, Zhong Lun Law Firm


Clifford Ng is a partner at Zhong Lun Law Firm. He specializes in providing comprehensive private client matters including tax, trust, estate planning, asset preservation, governance, and cross-border investments. He has been working with some of Asia's leading business families for over 20 years providing strategic advice to address their private wealth matters.

Clifford is admitted to practice in Hong Kong, England and Wales and he is also a barrister and solicitor in British Columbia, Canada. He articled and practiced with one of Canada’s leading firms before moving to Hong Kong in 1995. Clifford has been recognized by Chambers as a leading practitioner in this field for the last several years.

Peter Wong
Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais


Peter A. Wong is a partner in our Tax Group in our Vancouver office. Peter focuses his practice on matters involving Canadian tax issues, and typically advises clients on the Canadian income tax aspects of estate planning, wealth management, corporate reorganizations, and investments in
Canadian real estate or businesses. He has assisted clients in resolving disputes, or undertaking voluntary disclosures, with the Canada Revenue Agency.


Fluent in Cantonese as well as English, Peter has advised Cantonese-speaking clients from Hong Kong and certain parts of China.
