About the Speaker:

After years as an Executive Director for a government funded charity in British Columbia, and a move to Hong Kong in 2000, Dede (Deirdre) Marconato decided to pursue her fascination with gems, leading to her study at the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences in Bangkok in 2004. She followed with jewellery design and the Graduate Gemologist degree at the prestigious Gemological Institute of America. She studied metals arts in Vancouver specialising in goldsmithing and honed her craft under a British silversmith in London. Today Dede’s craft continues to evolve and she works at her bench in Sheung Wan sculpting metal where she recently launched a collection called Lava under her own brand Dede Marconato Contemporary Jewellery. Lava Collection is now sold internationally.

Dede’s background in the charity sector where the focus was on education and sharing of information has not left her. Beyond the technical craft of jewellery making, Dede’s passion is to give consumers a peek into the often complex and intriguing world of the diamond industry and how they can make ethical and value for money buying decisions.
