Valuing Mineral Resources: Methods and Pitfalls
Tell a Friend About This EventTell a Friend

Valuation of mining projects means many things to many people, but mining professionals and consultants, such as Snowden, are obliged depending on the jurisdiction to follow one of the many valuation codes such as VALMIN (Australia), CIMVAL (Canada), SAMVAL (South Africa) or other recognised codes. This presentation looks at Snowden's view of the differences in these approaches, appropriate valuation techniques and their application, and how to spot an inappropriately prepared Valuation.

About the Event:
Following on their last programme on Measuring Mineral Resources, the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, China Branch and the Natural Resources Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, are pleased to present the follow-on programme on valuing mineral resources. The presentation is illustrated by case studies of real Valuations submitted to regulatory authorities and the reasons why these Valuations were deficient. The presentation also introduces financial concepts applied to valuation of cash-flow models implied by a Reserve estimate and the dangers lurking therein for those unfamiliar with mining risk. Finally, we will look at how different perspectives on valuation in different parts of the world (western vs China) will influence the negotiation of acquisitions & mergers and the ability to get the deal done.
