Air quality is an important issue for Hong Kong, with intense public interest in delivering real improvements as we move forward. Government is undertaking a range of initiatives to improve the situation, targeting motor vehicles, marine vessels and other sources, as well as working closely with Guangdong to build a cleaner air-shed for the Pearl River Delta as a whole.

About the Event:

Air quality is an important issue for Hong Kong, with intense public interest in delivering real improvements as we move forward.

Government is undertaking a range of initiatives to improve the situation, targeting motor vehicles, marine vessels and other sources, as well as working closely with Guangdong to build a cleaner air-shed for the Pearl River Delta as a whole.

So, what progress is being made? Is our air actually getting cleaner? How have things changed in the last few years and what plans are there for more improvement as we move forward to the next decade?

In this important update, Ms. Christine Loh, Under Secretary for the Environment, will share progress on key measures so far and look ahead to further changes in the run up to the new air quality targets planned for 2020.

First 15-20 minutes is for networking,Lunch included.

 

 

About the Speaker:

Christine Loh, JP
Under Secretary for the Environment, The Government of the Hong Kong SAR


Ms. Christine Loh was appointed Under Secretary for the Environment in September 2012 and until she stepped down on September 11, 2012 was the Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit public policy think tank Civic Exchange. Prior to founding Civic Exchange in 2000, Ms. Loh had spent nearly a decade as a politician and member of the Legislative Council (1992-97 and 1998-2000).

Ms. Loh received her bachelor's degree in law from the University of Hull and her master's degree in Chinese and comparative law from the City University of Hong Kong.

Before joining the Legislative Council, Ms. Loh held senior regional positions in commodities trading, as well as in project negotiation. She had been the Chairperson of the Panel on Environmental Affairs (1995-96 and 1998-2000), and founded or served on boards of a wide range of non-governmental organisations in Hong Kong and overseas concerning a variety of issues including environmental protection, urban planning and design, and equal opportunity.
