About the Event:

According to FBI, Interpol, World Customs Organization and International Chamber of Commerce estimates, roughly 7-8% of world trade every year is in counterfeit goods. That is the equivalent of as much as USD$512 billion in global lost sales.*

At this lunch, Dr. Frederick Mostert a leading world expert in trademarks and counterfeits, will provide insight and practical suggestions to all brand owners and retailers across the board on how best to tackle the counterfeit issue in China and avoid being that 7-8%.

He will also share his views on online infringement problems on sites such as Alibaba.com, counterfeiting's collateral damage to society, Confucianism and counterfeiting, and public awareness campaigns.

About the Speaker:

 

Dr Frederick Mostert

Dr Frederick Mosterthas served on Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA's Board, as well as the boards of Net-A-Porter,The International Trademark Association, Freedom Under Law and others. He is also a Board Member of Walpole, the British luxury brand association.

He is principal author and editor ofFamous and Well-known Marks - An International Analysis, which has been cited in judgements around the world. He has also authoredFrom Edison to iPod - Protect Your Ideas, a guide for entrepreneurs and creative professionals. His op-ed pieces have been featured in theFinancial Timesand theSouth China Morning Post.
He has provided pro bono legal assistance to President Nelson Mandela, the Shaolin Monks and the Confucius Foundation - a children's charity among others.


He is a member of the New York Bar and a solicitor of England and Wales. He has practised corporate law in New York at Shearman and Sterling and international intellectual property law at Fross, Zelnick, Lehrman & Zissu. He is a recipient of a Life Achievement Award by the Global Legal Post and The New York Times.
