About the Event:

The internationalisation of China’s Renminbi has rapidly accelerated in recent years --- first in Asia, then in Europe --- in parallel with the country’s continually growing trade and investment flows globally. The currency’s international adoption has been facilitated largely through the development of RMB Settlement Hubs in key markets outside China, first in Hong Kong and East Asia, and then in London and other European capitals. On November 9, the governments of Canada and China announced measures that will establish Canada as designated RMB Settlement Hub, the first in North America. For more on this announcement, click here: . Once the relevant measures have been implemented, not only will Canadian & Chinese companies stand to gain many competitive advantages through being able to settle accounts between Canadian Dollars and Renminbi, but Canada’s RMB hub will be able to provide timely, efficient and cost-effective settlement and other RMB services to the entire Americas. Vancouver’s AdvantageBC in Vancouver and the Toronto Financial Services Alliance are actively collaborating with partners in government and business to promote Canada’s new role as a trading hub for the Chinese currency.

You are invited to join us at the British Columbia International Trade and Investment Office, in collaboration with the Canada-China Business Council, as AdvantageBC President Colin Hansen outlines how the Canadian RMB Hub is positioned to help facilitate business between China and Canada, while building on Canada’s strengths as a centre for  trade and international financial services in North America.
