About the Event:
Electricity supply is
indispensable necessity for modern city life. The safe and reliable supply of
electricity at a reasonable cost we enjoy today has been playing a crucial role
behind the scene to power the city’s growth and its competitiveness. Moving
forward to building a more environmental and sustainable city, Hong Kong
Government has recently launched a public consultation on the fuel mix for
electricity generation for the next decade. Two options have been proposed in
the document: to import more electricity from the Mainland power grid, or to
use more natural gas for local generation.
Given energy supply and
electricity infrastructure are long-term in nature, the choice for the right
fuel mix is an important decision for Hong Kong and for the community. The
choice made today could entail far-reaching consequences and implications to
the society for decades and beyond. Energy security, supply reliability,
environmental impact and cost implications are all key parameters that should
be taken careful consideration in the process of decision making.
Richard Lancaster, Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings, has
