What do you do when someone approaches you and offers to be your business partner bringing in needed expertise and skills to help develop your company?

What do you do when a venture capitalist approaches you with an offer of an injection of cash to help you to grow your business?

What do you do when you are feeling "lonely" in business and feel having a partner to bounce ideas off would be the solution?

Or what do you do when you want to reward hard working employees, e.g. by giving shares in your company?

This talk will discuss and present some options that will help you in the process of making logical and legally sensible decisions regarding partnership arrangements:  decisions that can have very long term implications.

About the Event:
- Founder Risks and External Investment: Navigating Uncharted Waters-

A successful business that can grow quickly in a hot sector or market is the holy grail for external investors.  The right investment can make everyone happy and wealthy. Live the dream, right? Some basic early awareness of risks can go a long way. There’s no such thing as free money. The expectations of business growth are immediate. The gravy train stops rolling as soon as money leaves the station. The carrot becomes the stick. The excitement turns to sleepless nights. This talk will highlight key founder risks for early stage companies

Topics covered will include:

  • Co-founder disputes
  • Protecting key assets and intellectual property
  • Accelerator programmes
  • Incentivising employees
  • Funding risks
  • External investors
  • Corporate structures
  • Founder and investor exits
  • Founder control
  • Investor and Board engagement

This presentation will interest members who have reached a crossroads in the development of their business, and want to hear practical insights on decisions they must make to move to the next stage of development.  Although targeted at businesses in the early to mid-stage of development, many of the risk factors addressed will be relevant to mature businesses looking to change direction from organic growth. This presentation will explore the possibilities early stage businesses have to reach the next stage of development.  There is no right or wrong answer, but you will leave this presentation equipped with the questions you need to ask to make an informed decision. This presentation will be followed by an interactive Q & A session moderated by Mr. Anthony Behan, the Chairman of the Entrepreneur and Small Business Committee.

***The Seminar Will Be Preceded By a Wine Reception***
