About the Event:

Welcome to the first of a three part series covering one of the most hotly discussed areas: Big Data.

Part one introduces you to all you need to know on the topic. Part two will cover how businesses are using and can use Big Data.  Part 3 will sandwich the technology of Big Data with privacy considerations.

Big data describes a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications. The challenges include capture, curation, storage, search, sharing, transfer, analysis and visualization.

It is a well known tool of Facebook and is used in many other verticals.  This discipline allows businesses to understand more about the world around them in a way that traditional methods can't handle.

It is also an area that many don't fully understand, don't appreciate the value and certainly don't know why it should be feared in the wrong hands. That’s why the area has already created heroes and villains.
