Never again.
This seems to be the animus driving national politicians and those who would tame the markets. Ideas abound for not only national, but global regulations, taxes and
other solutions to ensure we will never again have a financial meltdown like that of 2008-2009.
Donald Stewart spoke out recently at the Sun Life 2010 AGM to take a stand. While Canadian led efforts have moved the G20 to abandon European proposals,
discussion continues on the way forward.
As a veteran of the industry and global thought infuencer through The Geneva Association, Donald Stewart is eminently well-positioned to provide insight and guidance on how to best reform the industry
and the current thinking of the world's most influential current - and would-be - regulators.
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and The Economic Club of Canada are thrilled to bring an executive of this global calibre to Asia financial
centre.
Speaker:
Donald A. Stewart, Chief Executive Officer, Sun Life Financial Inc.
A native of Scotland, Donald Stewart joined the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada in London, England in 1969. He became
Canadian, coming to Montreal, in 1972.
Mr. Stewart has over 30 years of experience with the firm. In 1996 he was appointed President & Chief Operating Officer, and in 1998 Chief Executive Officer. He has led Sun Life Financial through periods
of unprecedented growth and provided a steady hand during times of economic crisis.
Mr. Stewart is a director of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association and international aluminum products company Novelis Inc. He is a member of the
Board for The Geneva Association, an international insurance think tank and research institution, the world's most prestigious insurance related think tank. In June 2009, Mr. Stewart was appointed Chairman of Canada′s National Task Force on Financial
Literacy.
Born in 1946, Mr. Stewart holds a degree in Natural Philosophy from the University of Glasgow, graduating in 1968 with First Class Honours.
