British Columbia is a North American leader in Climate Action and Clean Energy. China is believed to be emphasizing and developing a clean technology economic sector.
Our delegation is interested in learning about potential trade opportunities and information exchanges in these areas, enhancing and building upon the vitally important and growing linkages between China and British Columbia.
Biography
John Yap was appointed British Columbia's Minister of State for Climate Action on June 10, 2009. Minister Yap serves as Vice Chair of the Cabinet Committee for Climate Action and Clean Energy. He previously served as the Chair of the British Columbia
Liberal Government Caucus and on the cabinet committees including Treasury Board and Legislative Review as well as legislative committees such as Public Accounts (which he served as Deputy Chair), Finance and Government Services, Sustainable Aquaculture
and Crown Corporations. Minister Yap was first elected in the electoral district of Richmond-Steveston in the 2005 provincial election, and was re-elected in 2009.
Minister Yap is a graduate of the University of British Columbia with a Masters
of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science. Prior to entering politics Minister Yap worked for many years in the banking and financial planning industry.
Born in Singapore, Minister Yap immigrated as a teenager to British Columbia,
Canada with his parents. He has lived in the Greater Vancouver area for the past 34 years, living in Richmond for 24 of those years. Minister Yap is married with two children who attend university
