If the hype is to be believed, social media channels such as Facebook, Discuss and YouTube are taking over the world. While the reality is a little removed from this, all three sites are among
Hong Kong′s most visited. With Hong Kong′s consumers and constituents increasingly looking to online discussions ahead of traditional media outlets, the risks for your brand in not being part of social media channels are starting to outweigh
the risks of doing nothing. But before writing your first blog comment, responding to a BBS discussion thread or tweeting to their twitter followers, companies need to have social media policies in place. A social media policy outlines the corporate guidelines
or principles of communicating in the online world and is designed to protect the employees as well as the company. Jeremy will look at the case for introducing a workplace social media policy, offer best practice guidelines and show examples
of policies in action. Jennifer will discuss the best ways to minimise risk while complying with data privacy and employment laws in Hong Kong as well as looking at the potential legal risks that employers might incur in relation to use of social networks
and blogs by their staff.
