SOLD OUT!!! Opportunities and Implications for Business as China Responds to Climate Change

During this lunch seminar, Dr. Lin Bo Qiang, Senior Advisor to the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC) responsible for developing an energy strategy study for the twelfth five-year plan and a power sector development strategy for the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, will discuss current Chinese energy policy, the importance of the private sector, and potential business opportunities that can be derived from engaging in the dialogue.

Dr. Lin′s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion.

About the Speaker
Dr. Lin Bo Qiang is a senior advisor to the National Development and ReformCommission of China (NDRC) responsible for developing an energy strategy study for the twelfth five year plan and a power sector developing strategy for the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Dr. Lin is the Director of the China Center for Energy Economic Research and Chang Jiang Scholar Professor at Xiamen University. He was a Principal Economist (Energy) at the Asian Development Bank and previously participated in revising China′s Coal Law.
A prolific writer, Dr. Lin has published several books on energy economics theory and energy policy and contributed over fifty papers to a variety of academic journals. Dr. Lin is also a regular columnist for mainstream Chinese newspapers.
Dr. Lin is a special analyst for Xinhua and a consultant to international organizations including the Carbon Trust in the UK, the Asian Development Bank, the International Energy Agency, and the World Bank Group. Among other appointments in China, Dr. Lin has been a consultant to the Ministry of Finance, State Power Grid, China Guangdong Nuclear Group, and China Power Investment Corporation.

Dr. Lin received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California.

Bruce Hicks
Bruce Hicks is Managing Director of TPIZ Resources Ltd., a Hong Kong based environmental services and investment company which he founded in the summer of 2006. TPIZ Resources′ activities are conducted through its two operating subsidiaries - Green Building Services, which provides sustainability advisory services and Asia Clean Capital, which designs, builds, owns and operates geo-exchange systems to provide heating and cooling services for large buildings in China.

Bruce first arrived in Hong Kong in 1984 while working for Motorola Inc. of the US. In 1985, Bruce left Hong Kong briefly for his M.B.A. studies, returning in 1987 to join Hutchison Telecommunications. Between 1994 and 2006, he was a partner and Executive Director of Distacom Communications Limited, a Hong Kong based privately held company which invested in multiple start-up wireless telecom operations in Hong Kong, India, Africa and Europe. Bruce was also Chief Executive Officer of SUNDAY Communications Limited, a publicly listed company controlled by Distacom from 2002 to June 2006. He is currently a Director of Hong Kong listed e-Kong Ltd.

Bruce is originally from northern Manitoba, Canada. He received a B.S.E.E. degree from Michigan Technological University in 1983 and an M.B.A. from the Institute of Management Development (IMD), Switzerland in 1987. He is married with two children.


Sean Maher
Sean Maher is a London based consultant strategist to Global Alliance Partners, a network of investment banks and brokerages across Asia, the Middle East, the US and South Africa and also publishes the Dead Cats Bouncing investment strategy service. Sean holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the National University of Ireland and is a member of the CFA Institute. He has worked over the last 20 years as an economist with CRU, the world's leading commodities consultancy, as a portfolio manager at RLAM, the UK's largest mutual insurer, in investment banking with WestLB and Nomura, and as an independent economic and investment strategy consultant to both buy- and sell-side institutions.
