The
Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong in partnership with the
Department of Management Sciences of City University of Hong Kong
announce the results from the first ever Hong Kong Sustainable
Development Index Survey (HKSDI).
What
is HKSDI and what does it measure?
In
this first year of the survey, Hong Kong scored 56.4, a baseline
number against which future change can be measured.
The HKSDI will annually survey our progress on key economic,
environmental and social priorities; areas that are important for
furthering the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
What
are the overall objectives of the HKSDI?
1)
To assess the importance of Sustainable Development (SD) issues to
the HK community;
2)
To determine what the SD issues means to HK community;
3)
To track community perceptions on the importance of the SD issues
and progress in managing these issues in HK; and
4)
To raise awareness of the important role of the SD issues in
furthering SD in Hong Kong.
Who
is responsible for HK's sustainable development?
Sustainable
development involves the community, business and government striking
a balance that enables Hong Kong to achieve a vibrant economy,
social progress and better environmental quality.
To improve the quality of life of all members of the Hong
Kong community, we seek to identify areas of concern to enable
balanced, sustainable development.
What
areas of concern are identified as key elements for HK's balanced,
sustainable development?
The
HKSDI 2003 identified 10 top priority areas:

are the 2 most important areas?
Of
the ten priority areas, education system and healthy economy are
deemed the two most important issues by survey respondents.
